  • Community support

    Mon 20 May 2019 MF
Thank you to some very supportive parents who informed the school that the footpath was littered with rubbish last week, from people fly- tipping overnight. Thank you to some parents, who are councillors, who came personally and took the rubbish away. This is a brilliant support within our community.
  • Choir celebration 12th June 2.30pm

    Mon 20 May 2019 MF
The fabulous junior choir will be performing their end of year concert in the main hall. There will be no charge/tickets needed but a raffle will be held with proceeds going to a local good cause.
  • Book Fair

    Mon 20 May 2019 MF

The book fair will be held in the small hall and the children will have a chance to look at the books during the week. The fair will be open before and after school.

This is a great opportunity to support children’s reading. The profits will be used to buy more reading books for your children.

  • Woodland Trust tree planting

    Mon 20 May 2019 MF
A group of key stage 2 children joined other children in Embark Trust and planted trees with the Woodland Trust in Shipley Park last week to reclaim an area back to nature. They even appeared on
East Midlands Today news. Thank you to those children, Mrs McBean and Mrs Woodward.
  • Year 6 SATs

    Mon 20 May 2019 MF
We are so proud of all of our year 6 children. They worked so hard
last week in their tests and showed a great determination to
complete their work and to do their best. Well done year 6!
  • A fond farewell to our Catering Supervisor

    Mon 20 May 2019 MF
This week we said a fond farewell to Irene Eyre, our Catering Supervisor, who is retiring from school after spending over 30 years at Howitt looking after us. We would like to wish her all the best on her retirement.
  • Travel Smart Week

    Mon 20 May 2019 MF

This week is Travel Smart week - we are encouraging pupils to walk to school with parents/carers this week.

Pupils can also create calligrams to illustrate the different active ways you can make a journey to school and to share their ideas by asking an adult to send a photo or drawing to either email: sustainable.travel@derbyshire.gov.uk or tweet @Be_Travel_Smart using the hashtag #TravelSmart.

  • Rewards for reading

    Wed 08 May 2019 MF
We are so pleased to give a book to the children who have read 100 times at home. Each class also has their own rewards for reading at home. It is so important for your children to share their books with you, as well as reading as much as possible. It does help with your child’s writing too.
