Autumn Term World War II

World War II

In Year 5, Autumn Term has been incredibly busy as we learn all about World War II.

This term, children have learnt a lot about World War II in subjects across our curriculum. Children have generated their own enquiry questions and explored the events that led to the outbreak of World War II in 1939 as well as looking at a range of different key events. Children have been creating their own poppy art, learning more about Anne Frank and the prejudice towards the Jewish community.

WW2 Homework Projects

Children from across Year 5 have been busy with their homework projects this year. We are really pleased with all of their hard work and effort.

Remembrance Day

To commemorate Remembrance Day, children across Year 5 have been busy in their Art and ICT lessons - children were tasked with designing and creating their own Poppy Day T-shirt. We are so proud of the results and know that these t-shirts will be treasured forever.

Science - Light

This term we have been learning all about light. We discovered how light travels and undertook many investigations. We even applied our scientific knowledge to make periscopes, just as they would have been during World War II.

Harvest Breakfast

On Thursday 13th October, we really enjoyed performing our Harvest Festival to our invited guests. During the celebration, we performed some of our favourite songs and shared poetry that we had written in our English lessons. We also enjoyed sharing our breakfast with our own families.

Queen Elizabeth II

Following the sad death of Queen Elizabeth II, children in Year 5 have been learning a bit more about her life.

Children created a piece of pointillism art work inspired by Andy Warhol as part of International Dot Day. In Year 5, we also learned more about the British Values by electing our School Council Representatives.

Bikeability

Children in Year 5 took part in Level 1 Bikeability, learning how to ride safely.
