“The study of geography is about more than just memorising places on a map. It’s about understanding the complexity of our world, appreciating the diversity of cultures that exist across continents. And in the end, it’s about using all that knowledge to help bridge divides and bring people together” (US President Barack Obama)
At Howitt, we believe geography is more than simple map work and remembering the locations of various countries, continents and oceans. We are passionate about developing a geography curriculum which enables our children to not just function, but to thrive in an ever changing, multi-culturally diverse, interconnected global community. We believe that through the study of geography, our children will have the skills and tools to thrive in 21st century Britain
Geography helps us to understand the world around us. It teaches us to enquire and ask our own questions, to ask what and where, to ask why and how, to help us understand the ever-changing world around us.
Ultimately, geography is a powerful and enabling subject which teaches us to enquire, explore and explain. Geography matters!
