Reception

Welcome to Reception

The Busy Bees and Flamboyant Flamingo classes love to learn.

Throughout the academic year we will enjoy learning new skills and developing our knowledge of the world around us.  We start in the Autumn term finding out all about ourselves, our family and our friends in the topic ‘Ourselves’ answering the question ‘What do I know about me?’ After the holidays we start a new topic on toys.  We will share our favourite toys and compare toys including new and old.  We will also be finding out about different types of celebrations we take part in such as Bonfire Night and Diwali and  we will be celebrating at Christmas with our very own Christmas Production!!!!

In the Spring we will be reading lots of different traditional stories, acting out different stories, using puppets and writing a traditional story.  We will also be looking at how we can care for our world.  Looking at recycling and how we can look after each other too.  We will look at the changes that the season spring brings and how Christians celebrate Easter.

In the Summer term we will focus on the topic growing.  We will be finding out  how plants grow, how to look after them and be planting our own plants.  We will also look at how animals grow, such as frogs and caterpillars.  If the final term we will be sharing our favourite books and explaining the reasons why we enjoy them so much.  We will also be learning about summer and how the environment changes.

We are very lucky to have our own outdoor area in reception which we access daily.

These are our topics for this year:

  • Ourselves – What do I know about me?
  • Toys – What are our favourite toys?
  • Traditional Stories
  • Caring for our world - How can we look after our planet?
  • Growing – How do we look after plants?
  • Favourite books – What are our favourite books?

Autumn

We have been enjoying the nice weather and have been outside looking for signs of autumn.

We collected leaves and made autumn crowns and leaf suncatchers.
