Reception

Welcome to Reception 2020 - 2021

The Busy Bees and Flamboyant Flamingo classes love to learn.

Throughout the academic year we will enjoy learning new skills and developing our knowledge of the world around us.  We start in the Autumn term finding out all about ourselves, our family and our friends in the topic ‘Ourselves’ answering the question ‘What do I know about me?’ After the holidays we start a new topic 'Getting on and falling out'.  We will learn how to play nicely with others, taking turns and sharing.  We will find out the best ways to work together in groups and as a class.  We shall also be looking at different emotions and how they can make our body feel and ways to manage these emotions.  We will also be finding out about different types of celebrations we take part in such as Bonfire Night and Diwali and looking at how and why we celebrate Christmas.

In the Spring we will be reading lots of different traditional stories, acting out different stories, using puppets and writing a traditional story.  We will also be looking at how we can care for our world.  Looking at recycling and how we can look after each other too.  We will make observations of plants and animals and investigate how they change.  We will look at the changes that the season spring brings and how Christians celebrate Easter.

In the Summer term we will focus on 'Where we live'.  We will be finding out about the similarities and the differences in house and the materials they are made of.  If the final term we will be sharing stories from around the world.  We will compare where we live with others places around the world.  We will also have the opportunity to write our own stories.  We will also be learning about summer and how the environment changes.

We are very lucky to have our own outdoor area in reception which we access daily.

These are our topics for this year:

  • Ourselves – What do I know about me?
  • Getting on and falling out.
  • Traditional Stories
  • Our world - How can we look after our planet?
  • Where we live.
  • Stories around the world.

Autumn

We have been enjoying the nice weather and have been outside looking for signs of autumn.

We collected leaves and made autumn crowns and leaf suncatchers.
