Year 5 Flashback Writing
Year 5 were lucky enough to receive a recorded message from Tony Bradman himself ... the author of 'Viking Boy.'
He asked to hear some of our writing so we held a competition for the best flashback account based on the main character from his book.
It was really hard to choose from all the amazing work we read, but two creative writers stood out for their description and attention to detail. Well done Hannah and Aurijah who had their work sent to Tony Bradman for him to read.
Please read the two winning flashbacks below:

Story Writing Competition
Pupils from year 2 to year 6 were given the opportunity to write a story at home inspired by an author called Lesley Parr. The stories were then judged by our co – chairs of governors, Jane Bowley and Carolyn Wood and 6 winners were chosen to visit an author event held at Derby Theatre. This was part of the Derby Book Festival.
The winners from years 5 and 6 attended Derby theatre on Thursday morning 8th June to meet Lesley Parr.
The winners from year 2, 3 and 4 attended Derby theatre on Thursday afternoon 8th June to meet the author Joseph Coelho.
Pupils from Howitt Primary School also met the authors through a live stream in their classrooms and had lots of discussion afterwards about the authors and their work.
Well done and thank you so much to all of the pupils who entered our story writing competition. There were so many brilliant stories and our co-chair of governors found it very difficult to just pick 6 winners.
Congratulations to our year 2 and 3 winners: Alin, Millie and Jacob.
Years 2 and 3 meeting Joseph Coelho
Congratulations to our year 4, 5 and 6 winners: Megan, Noah and Eloise
Years 4, 5 and 6 meeting Lesley Parr
During the summer term 2022, we were lucky enough to have a visit from Baasit Siddiqui known from the TV series Gogglebox. The purpose of his visit was to work with a group of pupils from year 4 & 5 to support them in pitching an idea for a television show. The students planned, presented and created a two minute promotional advert for their media concept.
Their proposals have been entered into a competition. If their pitch is shortlisted, it will be judged by studio executives from Gogglebox with the chance to win prizes for the school, themselves and a trip to London. Fingers crossed for a winning entry although much fun was had by all throughout the day.
