Summer 2 - Rivers

Rivers

This half term we have been learning all about rivers. We have learnt about the different features of a river and how a river flows from the source to the mouth. We have also studied a local river – the River Derwent and flowed its course across Derbyshire. We have put our geography skills to the test by looking at ordnance survey maps of the Derwent and using the scale to calculate the length of the river at a certain point. We have learnt about the dangers that rivers pose, including the risk of flooding, and what is being done to protect people, businesses and communities. We have finished this topic by carrying out some independent research into different aspects of rivers that we have found interesting, including wildlife, pollution and rivers around the world.
