Achieve, Care, Enjoy

Spring 1

This half term our topic is 'Tell a story'

We will be looking at and reading a range of traditional and modern stories.

We will be re-telling stories that we have read in class, such as The 3 Little Pigs and we will also be making up own stories during our play.

We will also be using our senses to explore what if feels like in winter and comparing winter to autumn, talking about the differences in our local area.

Goldilocks and the 3 Bears

We came into our classroom and found one of the chairs broken and porridge all over the floor!

We had to find out what had happened.

Celebrations

We enjoyed finding out about different celebrations; we learnt about why we make pancakes on Shrove Tuesday and we had a go at making our own.  We even had a go at flipping the pancakes.

We also celebrated Valentine's Day and made our love heart biscuits using our doubling skills from our maths lesson to double the recipe.

We also learnt all about Lunar New Year.  We made dragons and did our own dragon dance.  We also made a traditional Chinese cake.

The 3 Little Pigs

We read the story of The 3 Little Pigs.  We learnt all about the different characters in the story.

One day when we came into school we noticed that one of the 3 little pig's houses had been knocked down.  We decided that the big bad wolf had been into school 'huffing' and 'puffing.'

We made wanted posters to help people find the big bad wolf, we also made a big pot to catch him in.

The 3 Little Pigs

The Gingerbread Man

We read the story of the gingerbread man and loved joining in with the repetitive phrases such as 'run, run as fast as you can, you can't catch me, I'm the gingerbread man.'

We also made our own gingerbread men, some were biscuits and some we made with paper

bags.

We're Going on a Bear Hunt

We have been reading and retelling the story "We're Going on a Bear Hunt". We went on our own bear hunt, using our senses, to find the bear who was hiding in our outdoor area.

We listened to a range of different instruments and decided which sounds were best for the different parts of the story: grass, river, mud, forest and snowstorm. We then retold the story using the instruments to add the sound effects.
