Who were the Mayans? 

We were really excited to kick the topic off by making Mayan hot chocolate – did you know they used chillies to add spice and flavour it!               

We then looked at where the Mayan’s lived in Mesoamerica and which countries are there now, labelling our own maps. Following this, we researched what life was like for the Mayan people looking specifically at sports, farming, homes, beliefs and religion. The children presented this information in the style of an informative leaflet. Another highlight for this topic was looking at the influence the Mayan civilization had on the world we live in today: their calendar, numbers and writing system are just a few of their significant legacies.
