At Howitt Primary school we work as a team and we encourage children of all ages to work together.
The children are placed in family teams and rewarded with house points for showing good manners, qualities of honesty, respect and caring for others.
We have four house teams,
Chatsworth, Hardwick, Kedleston and Haddon.
We have just completed our first competition of the year, which was times tables. Children battled in a friendly competition to see which of the competitors was 'top-tabler' for their house team - most enjoyable and fun to watch their incredible speed!
Last year, in the Autumn term, we had two sets of dodgeball competitions with over 60 children taking part and the year 6 team captains managing their teams.
In the Spring term the children competed in a general knowledge quiz in their class with a final team made up by the winning child in each year group representing their house team in the final.
Before Easter each team competed in a Times Tables Rock-Stars competition in front of the whole of KS2.
Key Stage 1 Spelling Bee was won by Haddon and Hardwick came a close second. Well done Key stage 1 and thank you to all the parents for helping the children with this task.
In the Summer term all the children competed in the Team Point Spelling Bee, with every correct word counting as a point towards the total.
In the second half term of summer all of the children in KS1 and KS2 took part in sports day.
In KS1 children raced in an obstacle race, egg & spoon race, sack race and a sprint.
In KS2 children raced in a sprint, sack race, hurdles and a team relay.
1st place winners were awarded with 100 team points, 2nd place were awarded with 75 team points and 3rd place were awarded with 50 team points. All other places were awarded 25 points.
