Letters and Sounds
Letters and Sounds is taught daily for a minimum of 20 minutes, so that children build up and practise the skills they need in reading and writing. Opportunities are created at other times during the day to consolidate the learning that has taken place in these phonics lessons, and apply the skills taught in a variety of other reading and writing activities. We follow the Letters and Sounds programme which has 6 phases. Phase 1 begins in nursery, with phase 2 starting in the first term of Reception. Our aim is for children to be secure at phase 5 by the end of year one in order to move on to phase 6 in year two.

It is really important that the sounds are pronounced correctly. If they are not, then it is difficult to blend them together to read a word.
Here are some videos to tell you how we pronounce each of the sounds.
