James and the Giant Peach

James and the Giant Peach

Picture 1

This half term, we will be taking inspiration from Roald Dahl's, James and the Giant Peach to help us learn in a creative and fun way.

In English, we will be reading the story and our first writing challenge will be to create a news report about what happened to James's parents. We will then move on to writing a diary entry about what it is like living with Aunt Sponge and Aunt Spiker. We look forward to more exciting writing challenges as we read the book.

In science, we will investigate the conditions needed to grow the perfect peach and we will investigate how different surfaces create different amounts of friction. We will then choose the best surface to pull a peach along.

In computing, we will be designing posters to encourage people to come and see the giant peach. We will be using 'Word' and will learn how to input images, how to use page borders, how to change the font and the font's size and colour, how to use WordArt and how to align the text.

In art and design, we are going to make a giant peach using chicken wire and paper mache. We will also learn how to mix colours in order to create our own painting of the peach.

In geography, we will be locating on maps where all of our fruit and vegetables come from. As we are looking a maps we will look at the different continents, oceans and seas. We will also research the different places the peach lands.

As we plan more and more exciting cross-curricular lessons, we will update our page.
