Hello, we are the Howitt School Council.
We have been democratically voted for by our class. We are all in the juniors but represent the views of all the children in the school. We meet fortnightly and children from years 5 and 6 lead the meetings.
Having a School Council ensures that the pupil voice is heard. We help with projects throughout the school. For example, we support a boys’ reading group and a peer mentoring scheme. The Councillor involved then gives a report to the School Council so the School Council can think of other ideas that may be discussed during class meetings.
We organise fundraising activities to raise money for the school to buy equipment or for charity. The School Council have raised money for Children in Need and Brain Tumour Research. The School Council support whole school activities. For example, we held a cake stall at the school Centenary Fair – raising £240 for future projects.
The School Council also lead an assembly once a term. We present certificates to children for being good citizens. Awards have been presented for being a kind friend, an enthusiastic class member, positive role model and similar. The children who win the award have been democratically voted for by their class.
The School Council are a friendly, hardworking group of pupils. New ideas are always welcome!
