Mrs Marshall and Mr Wylie would like to welcome you to Year 5. Our teaching assistants are Mrs Wood and Mrs Fowkes.
In Year 5, we learn about some very exciting topics!
- Autumn – The Victorians
- Spring 1 – Space
- Spring 2 – The Vikings
- Summer – Around the World Explorers
In science we will be investigating the properties and changes of different materials, we will look at living things and their habitats, discover what force is and how we can change it, learn about animals (including humans) and how they change and reproduce, and finally we will discover what really is out there in our space topic. We kicked the year off with our amazing trip to the Victorian Workhouse (Southwell). Our children were transported back in time to become orphaned Victorian children for the day. This absolutely fantastic trip has given us first-hand experience to help our creative writing and inspire our Victorians topic. We have lots of other exciting things planned too! Look out for photos being posted and for more updates on what Year 5 are getting up to this year.
We really enjoyed our science hunt to find out about changes in states of matter.
Year 5 children had a great time on their trip to Southwell Workhouse.
As part of their topic on Victorians the children in year 5 had great fun tasting gruel!
Year 5 had a great time learning about the Vikings. They had a viking visitor in who had lots of artefacts for the children to explore.
During science week we found out about air resistance by carrying out an egg drop! We had a cracking time making parachutes to save our eggs when being dropped from a great height.
Look at all the fun we had studying the artifacts, rowing a long boat, making metal rubbings, writing our name in runes, soap carving, tying knots, dressing up and much more on our Viking trip!
Year 5 are learning how to cook meals. This term we are cooking cottage pie from scratch.
As a start to our new topic on Space, we designed and made our own rockets. We then launched them into space!
The anti-bullying workshop made us think more carefully about how to be kind to each other.
Christmas jumper day December 2017
An amazing time was had by everybody when Key Strings came to show us and let us explore different stringed instruments.
Year 5 celebrated Harvest by inviting their parents in to have a special breakfast with them.
Year 5 children had a great time at the Halloween disco.
We all had lots of fun on Superhero day, raising money for childhood cancer.
