Welcome to Year 1, the Magnificent Monkeys and Fabulous Flamingos!
We have lots of exciting learning activities planned for the year ahead based around the themes of plants, animals, toys and weather. We try to make each topic a hands on learning experience and enhance our work as much as possible with trips out and visitors to our school. We are also very lucky to be visited once a week by the team at Yogabugs. In year 1 we feel that it is important for the children to share their experiences with you so we encourage you to discuss their learning with them at home and join in the fun!
During year 1 we encourage listening to your child read as often as possible and helping them to practise their spelling lists. Regularly reading and writing common words at this stage is the best way to help children become confident readers and writers, so your input and support is crucial.
Please do come to see us with any queries or concerns as supporting your child to do their absolute best is a team effort, so the more we communicate with each other, the better!
We hope you and your child enjoy it just as much as we do!

The children had a great time finding out about the different types of animals, the meerkat was a firm favourite with everyone but the tarantula was a bit scary!
Year 1 children enjoyed their pirate day, they had made maps and telescopes to help find the treasure and sang some pirate songs for their parents and grandparents with the reception and nursery children.
Children in Year 1 have enjoyed their topic on Ourselves, they liked using their sense of smell to guess what was in the pot.
They also had fun labelling the body parts.
They made some delicious vegetable soup, using potatoes grown last year in reception.
Year 1 children enjoyed dressing up for World Book Day.
Year 1 children enjoyed the reading afternoon, sharing reading books and completing reading activities with our parents.
